Firstly, thank you for taking the time to come onto my blog and experience life through my eyes along with all the shared stories.
Most of you know me as Lioness but my actual name is Ifeoma or Amanda whichever you prefer. I have a multicultural background which I believe has shaped me into the woman I am today. I was raised in South Africa, my mother’s place of birth, with my Greek stepfather. My biological father is Nigerian from Anambra state. I believe I’ve had a front row seat in experiencing white privilege, racism, sexism, and xenophobia. My whole life I’ve been told that my judgments are clouded simply because I’ve never belonged fully to any tribe, however, I beg to differ, having a mixed family has allowed me to empathize and relate to each conflict that arises in our society.
I started this blog because I want to share the minds of young marginalised black women, who are striving for perfection while learning to embrace their imperfections. Society has stolen authenticity from us, it tells us who to be and how to be the ideal woman/man. How are we supposed to find or identify with our true selves when the world places so much judgement on our differences and uniqueness where we now see them as flaws…We are told to fake it till we make it but at what cost? The point of faking it is to encourage and bring confidence and eventually, through the act, you will magically become more confident. While I am a strong proponent that taking action does bring confidence, carrying the mantra “fake it until you make it” doesn’t really work and in my opinion perpetuates “Imposter Syndrome.” How can you expect to step into your greatness or see yourself as an expert (let alone others seeing you as an expert), if your mantra is to “Fake It”?
